Knowing
the descriptions of dress styles is only the first step to
finding that perfect dress.
Keep
in mind some pointers to select the gown that best flatters
your figure.
If
you are short:
Consider a dress with a high neckline and empire waist, or
combine a short-sleeve dress with long gloves for a heightening
effect. You can also don a sheath or A-line with a sexier
neckline. Petite people should stay away from the big ball
gowns and veils that are longer than the floor (cathedral-length).
For
those who are tall:
A drop-wasted dress with a wide belt of trim will distract
attention from your all legs look. Off-the-shoulder or low
necklines with billowy sleeves look good on taller brides.
Accentuate your collarbone by wearing a fitted bodice and
open neckline. Try to avoid up-dos and headpieces that add
too much extra height.
If
you are slender:
You can easily wear heavier, more luxurious fabrics such as
velvet, satin or moirŽ. You might like to show off your figure
with a dress that has a gathered waist and narrow sleeves.
If
you are on the heavy side:
You will want to select a dress that has a slimming effect.
Princess or A-line styles are slimming and create the illusion
of height; a full skirt hides heavy legs and hips. Skip slim
sheaths and slinky bias-cuts that will cling and may accentuate
any extra inches.
Larger-busted women:
Should look for dresses with a V-neck or a high neckline;
these are the most flattering. Balance them with a full skirt.
Avoid empire waste dresses that are designed to accentuate
the bust-line.
For
those with wide hips:
Disguise your mid section with an A-line dress or flared skirt.
Choose a dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline to make your
top more in portion to your bottom.
There
are many fabrics and shades from which to choose. Find the
textures and hues that flatter your complexion.
