- Start
your packing list a week or two before you leave. Add items
as you think of them and keep an inventory should a bag
get lost en route.
- When
selecting your wardrobe, lean toward solid, wrinkle-free
pieces and versatile footwear.
- A
wise traveler will not take clothes or shoes that they haven't
worn yet. Only pack the ones you've given a test run.
- Do
laundry a few days early so your clothes will be clean.
- Clothes
that tend to wrinkle should be rolled - not folded. Or lay
clothes in the suitcase on their hangers and in plastic
dry cleaners bags.
- To
help your shoes or purses keep their shapes, stuff them
with your socks and underwear.
- Uncurl
your belts and wrap them around the inside of your suitcase.
- Pack
an extra bag or duffel so you can bring home souvenirs and
other goods.
- Share
bathroom basics such as toothpaste, shampoo and so on.
- Be
sure to double-bag your liquids or seal them in a zip-lock
bag to prevent leakage.
- Don't
overstuff! Suitcase zippers or latches have been known to
bust or open during flight because of the movement and pressure.
- Pack
all your valuables, one change of clothing, snacks and minimum
toiletry needs in your carry-on should your luggage be delayed.
- As
soon as you arrive, unpack your belongings and hang up your
clothing.
