Traditionally,
the rehearsal dinner is hosted by the groom's parents. You
can either have a more intimate party with your immediate
family and the wedding party, or you can have a larger affair
and invite out-of-town guests that need to arrive early. Either
way, be sure to include your clergyperson (and guest) and
other people with roles in the wedding (and guests).
The
rehearsal dinner is often the first time many of your guests
will meet each other, and it is helpful to use nametags and/or
place cards. Plan your seating so that your guests enjoy the
company of those at their table, and will also get to meet
new people.
The
bridal couple and their immediate family generally sit together
at the front or focal table. The wedding party can be seated
with the bridal couple or seated among your other family members
and special guests.
The
rehearsal dinner is often the time for the groom's father
to make his formal toast to the couple. It's also an excellent
time for the couple to give attendants their gifts, especially
the gifts that are to be worn by the wedding party in the
ceremony.
